The tiny space known as Heaven and Earth Gallery, an upstairs spot boasting the only New Orleans-style balcony in downtown San Luis Obispo, has housed everything from jewelry to paintings to August’s “Sit on This” chair show. This time around, they’re on the hunt for wearable art.

For the September show “Wear Art, Thou!” gallery owner Lynn Hessler is looking for artists to submit “any sort of wearable art: jewelry, accessories, clothing; anything that can be attached to a living body.”

“I guess I am excluding post-mortem outfits,” she added. “Oh well.”

Hats, dresses, antlers, crowns, shoes, scarves, life preservers, necklaces—they’re all fair game as far as Hessler’s concerned.

Artists are invited to bring their wearable pieces to the gallery—located at 964 Chorro St. in downtown San Luis Obispo—from Wednesday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 2, from noon to 6 p.m. Incidentally, Sept. 2 is also the date of the exhibit’s Art After Dark reception.

Hessler explained: “We do function best in the 11th hour, after all.”

Hessler, who works full-time for a decorative art company, recently welcomed daughter HayleyMae, a UCSB graduate with a degree in Studio Art, to work in her downtown gallery.

For more information on the gallery show, phone Lynn at 602-1542 or HayleyMae at 423-5374.
