The ’80s were a time of synthesizers, brightly colored clothes, far-out hairstyles, obnoxious sayings, and rebellious music. The era also housed a country power-duo that took the world by storm. Naomi Judd and her daughter Wynonna ran the country scene under the moniker The Judds. They topped the charts with hits like “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Why Not Me,” and “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days).”

In 1991, The Judds embarked on their farewell tour after Naomi was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and decided it was more important to recover than to perform. Wynonna didn’t stop, though: She went on to release her first solo album, Wynonna, in 1992. The album went quintuple platinum and was the start of a very successful career. The album birthed four No. 1 singles and was the bestselling female country album of her time. In 1994, Wynonna received the Top Female Vocalist of the Year honor at the Academy of Country Music Awards. In 2005, she received the USO’s Merit Award for services to all U.S. Armed Forces Divisions, and she also received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame in 2007.

When her mother was back to full health, the pair embarked on two reunion tours together while Wynonna continued to take the country world by storm. It seems nothing can slow her down: Wynonna, along with her mother, has starred in a docu-series on the Oprah Winfrey Network, wrote a novel titled Restless Heart, currently has seven chart-topping albums, and will be releasing her eighth studio album sometime later this year.
