In Spanish, “Fe Ciega” means “Blind Faith,” which was the original name of this vineyard until the band of the same name said, no way. And winemaker Rick Longoria found a simple alternative. This special vineyard supplies Longoria with superlative grapes each year, and I always buy the result. Rich and complex, it’s layered with aromas and flavors of blackberries, plums, blueberries, and wild berry, nicely balanced with nuances of spice, minerals, and earth. It’s available at Longoria’s Los Olivos tasting room, which is well worth the trip, and in fine restaurants. This limited but collectible wine is $54 retail, and well worth stashing in your cellar for a special occasion. Serve it with an equally special meal like pepper-crusted and seared ahi, fresh Alaskan King salmon, or an oak-grilled steak.
