Stolpman 2009 Hilltops Syrah Santa Ynez Valley

comment

This impressive Syrah is a great value for quality vs. price ratio. Grown in Stolpman’s estate vineyards, this intensely hued wine has an amazing red violet rim. It opens with bold fruit flavors with the most intense blueberry notes I have ever tasted. Filled out with flavors of plums and wild, briary blackberries, it’s a tad ripe but remains balanced. I loved it with steak, and it would pair nicely with lamb or venison. It will age nicely over the next five to eight years. Although it’s $48 retail, it’s a good buy for this very special wine. Pick one up for your holiday celebrations; it’s sure to impress every wine lover at your table. If you’re anywhere near Los Olivos, it’s well worth a stop at Stolpman’s tasting room to pick up a bottle of both of these wines for the holiday season.
