Three men from the Bay Area were arrested by SLO police on Thursday for using counterfeit traveler’s checks.
Authorities were alerted after two of the men at Denny’s restaurant on Calle Joaquin used a forged check to pay for a meal.
When the cashier confronted one of the men, he grabbed the check and paid the bill with cash.
Police were notified and found out that the two men were staying with a third at a nearby motel. Police arrested Harold Brown, Gregory Goodwin, and Rashid Islam, who were charged with forgery.
Police also found 100 counterfeit traveler’s checks and more than $1,000 in cash in the trio’s possession.
