Two men suspected of murdering Sharon Ostman are currently in police custody, according to Eddie Simmers, the last person to see Ostman alive. New Times spoke with Simmers just before going to press. “Police told me they found a DNA match on Hippie G, Simmers says. They say they arrested him in Oregon and they also have Roger in custody. The police said they were high on crystal meth when they killed Sharon, Eddie claims. SLO police detective Steve Tolley denies that the suspects are in custody here in SLO County, but said he did not know if they were in custody in Oregon. Tolley did confirm that both Hippie G and Roger were persons of interest. Tolley also denies the DNA match on Hippie G.
Â
Last July, Ostman’s battered body was found partially submerged in San Luis Obispo Creek near the Mission. She had been sexually assaulted, savagely beaten, and murdered. For the last 20 years of her life, Ostman had wandered the streets of SLO, homeless, confused and often alone.
Â
New Times has reported that during the past few months, numerous people have said a transient meth addict known as Hippie G admitted to people at a homeless encampment in Oregon that he killed Sharon. Then last month, a local homeless women we will call Sue, told New Times that Hippie G had told her two days before Ostman’s tragic death, that he planned to kill Ostman.Â
Â
Eddie Simmers says that Hippie G and Roger, another transient meth addict who was known to dislike Ostman, admitted to the murder and threatened to kill him if he spoke to the police. “Hippie G told me, ‘I killed her and I’ll do you to.’ Roger was with him. I was afraid to say anything till they were arrested. On April 19, Simmers says SLO police told him that they had Roger and Hippie G in custody. A few hours later Simmers suffered a heart attack. “It has been very stressful, Simmers says. “Sharon loved me. She was one of my best friends.
