Megan Lee Jewell, 24, of Paso Robles, was sentenced to a year in county jail and 10 years felony probation for her involvement in a car wreck in the summer of 2004. Jewell had a blood-alcohol level of .15 during the crash, which is more than twice the legal limit.

On July 31, 2004, Jewell was heading south on Highway 101 in Paso Robles when she went over the median and hit a Buick head on. Inside the Buick was Ramon Gonzalez, 42, and Camacho Rodriguez, 38. Both died. Three other men in the Buick survived the crash.

Witnesses testified that Jewell had been drugged with the date-rape drug gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), but tests did not reveal any in her system.

Prosecuting attorneys called for a sentence
of four years, but Judge Barry LeBarbera
disagreed.

'It's clear to me that there was an amount
of GHB [in her body]," Judge LeBarbera was quoted as saying in the Tribune . 'I believe it
[the crime] was committed under unusual
circumstances."
