Poly frat tallies two sexual assault allegations for March

A woman said an unknown male sexually assaulted her on the night of March 31 at a residence affiliated with the Cal Poly Delta Chi fraternity. She reported the incident to the San Luis Obispo Police Department on April 3.

The woman also alleged she “was forced to consume alcohol against her will,” according to a Cal Poly emergency notification sent out to the campus on April 3.

“The university and San Luis Obispo PD are taking all appropriate actions in response to this report,” the notification said.

The incident is the second allegation of sexual assault occurring at a Delta Chi fraternity event in one month.

On March 4, the university reported an attempted sexual assault at the Delta Chi fraternity house, where an unidentified man attacked a woman by holding her down with the intention to sexually assault her, but she fought off the attacker and was able to escape.

Cal Poly announced on April 3 that it suspended the Delta Chi fraternity chapter, effective immediately, while the university’s Dean of Students Office completes administrative reviews of the gatherings.

The April 3 announcement coincided with the first day of “Sexual Assault Awareness Week” at Cal Poly.

Cal Poly Spokesman Matt Lazier declined to comment further on the incidents, due to privacy concerns and the ongoing nature of the investigations.
