Get ready for fun and excitement: All the candidates running for San Luis Obispo City office have revealed themselves and are slated for the November ballot. The locals running for the two-year mayor gig are former councilman Paul Brown, Andrew Farrell, Donald Hedrick, and current city councilmember Jan Howell Marx. Candidates running for the two, four-year term positions are chairman of the city’s Cultural Heritage Committee Dan Carpenter, current city councilmember Andrew Carter, Andrea Miller, Terry Mohan, Arnold Ruiz, and former city councilmember Kathy Smith.

Hopefully, no one running for SLO city office is inspired by the salaries racked up by council members for the city of Bell. Here, the mayor receives $1,200 per month, and each council member gets a monthly salary of $1,000. City Council members are enrolled in the Public Employee Retirement System (P.E.R.S.), with the city paying the members’ contribution. Council members are also eligible to receive health, dental, and life insurance and get the same contribution amount from the city as does
a city department head.
