Ferguson, Immigration, ISIS, Kardashian’s next baby—all distractions from the world’s greatest dilemma: climate change. Big news stories are serious issues; so is carbon pollution. A news cycle that ignores a significant cause of human suffering harms the public. Climate change demands as much attention as celebrity baby bumps! We don’t need more babies consuming the planet’s resources.
Whether it’s the smoke of carbon pollution or smoke and mirrors of media distraction, the news media—owned by corporate powers—set the agenda for public discourse and have little interest in discussing climate change. Corporate owners want viewers distracted from our most pressing issue because the only solution will cause Big Oil to collapse, terminating our carbon-based economy.
The fossil fuel industry is capitalism’s second son; free market principles keep oil prices in check; almost everything we do or buy is based on the price of a barrel of oil. But oil is killing the planet. We are fracking bedrock to produce fossil fuel to burn in power plants that kill about 7 million people around the planet each year. That’s a lot of smoke!
Our prehistoric ancestors burned wood for heat; it’s time for humanity to evolve into the advanced creatures we think we are. Stop using fossil fuel for power; start energizing the planet with the most powerful energy available to mankind: nuclear power, the only energy source capable of replacing fossil fuel in time to lessen the effects of global warming.
