Let's welcome the quarry

I am writing you today to urge you to support the Las Pilitas Resources, LLC, proposal to open a quarry east of Santa Margarita.

The Las Pilitas Resources project is an area that has been mining for generations. Located next to a decades-old quarry, Las Pilitas Resources will provide San Luis Obispo County and the Central Coast region with a needed resource to meet our personal and infrastructure needs for years to come.

The impacts of the quarry will be outweighed by the benefits it will provide to our community, including new jobs and infrastructure investments, open space protections on the property, and, most importantly, re-circulating dollars locally instead of sending them to large corporations based out of the state and country.

I am proud to say I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo County, including attending both Cuesta Community College and California Polytechnic University. To me, San Luis Obispo County represents the true idea of the “America Dream” and the slogan of “Staying Local.” It is important San Luis Obispo County maintains these ideals by allowing local opportunities to business owners.

The applicants of Las Pilitas Resources are local business owners and employers and have retained an open-door policy with the community to address questions and concerns. Their continued accessibility and transparency throughout this process should be applauded, and I urge you to support the Las Pilitas Resources project
