It makes me sad and upset to see Dan De Vaul being punished for trying to do some good in this world (“The Sunny Acres coup,” June 24). New Times reported Judge Charles Crandall is siding with the county because officials are saying most buildings on the ranch are unsafe for human occupancy.

 I would like to pose some questions to the judge and those county officials. How safe would it be to live on the streets with no place to go and nothing but a one-time stipend of $1,500? How many people in those so-called unsafe buildings have died from conditions there, compared to others who had to live on the streets? As for the judge, has he personally gone out to look at the place and talk to the residents? Or is he too comfortable to care about the 24 lives in his hands?
