The human condition has turned this world upside down

In 1925 when I was born, there were fewer than 2 billion people on this small fragile planet—now there are 7.4 billion. In nature all population explosions are followed by a population collapse. We are ripe. We create deserts, pollute our water, cut down forests, melt our ice caps, modify our planet, and in my opinion make it unfit for human habitation. We named ourselves Homo sapiens meaning “man wise.” We are the first organism here to have any control of its future. Maybe we should have called ourselves Homo dumbkopf. I’m glad my life is about over.
