It has been forty years since the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970, which was intended to raise awareness and change how we respond to environmental threats. Today, the perils are even greater. But one thing we’ve learned over the decades is that each person can make a difference. That is why the Earth Day Alliance is asking individuals and organizations throughout San Luis Obispo County to “put your green footprint forward” to reduce climate change.
Sign-ups for this fun, result-oriented community campaign are underway now. Individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and congregations can register to help protect the environment at earthdayalliance.com or call 544-8529.
The action part of “put your green footprint forward” will kick off on the first day of spring, March 20, at Meadow Park in SLO at 1 p.m. All participants will be recognized at Earth Day SLO on April 24. The date marks the 20th anniversary of Earth Day in San Luis Obispo and the tenth anniversary of the Earth Day Alliance Inc., a nonprofit 501c3, whose purpose is to coordinate an annual Earth Day event.
