All conservatives aren’t anti-gay

comment

After reading Bob Spielman’s letter in the Feb. 24-March 3 issue of New Times, I must say as a gay Republican and moderate conservative with gay Republican friends, I am appalled.

What kind of narrow-mindedness is this? You will find narrow-minded people in any political party. To say all straight Republicans and moderate conservatives are anti-gay is absurd. That’s like saying all straight Democrats and liberals are pro-gay; some are not. To say that the Gay and Lesbian Alliance, GALA, is pushing an anti-Republican, anti-conservative agenda is also absurd. As a past member of GALA I attended their board meetings. At no time did I ever hear talk of disassociation from Republicans or conservatives. Politics wasn’t on the agenda for discussion. Readers of
New Times should go to the GALA web site at www.ccgala.org and click the “About GALA link. GALA is about inclusiveness, diversity, and educating people about the
gay community.

Lastly, the two members of the gay community who supposedly told their friend they could no longer be friends with her because she “might be a Republican should themselves know full well the shamefulness and hurt that discrimination in any form causes.
