Ever catch yourself wandering the streets of downtown, fatigued, but not quite ready for an entire meal, so you find yourself wishing you had a package of Cattaneo Bros. jerky in your pocket, or is that just me?

Sure there are plenty of places to grab a package of Cattaneo Bros. jerky, but why give your money to a third-party store when you can now go straight to their new retail store-front on Chorro Street? In case you haven’t walked up Chorro in a while, it is there. The Mercantile featuring Cattaneo Bros. is tucked between New Earth Superfoods and the Trio Boutique.

The Mercantile, owned by Katelyn Kaney, offers all the varieties of jerky, chocolate, fruit, and nuts that the Factory does, as well as all the extra local tidbits, such as seasonings, glaze, honey, and olive oils. But what would a downtown shop be if it didn’t have a little cuteness thrown in the mix?

Aside from jerky, you can also do a little shopping for some everyday gifts. The Mercantile is stocked with jewelry, hand-crafted baby items, trinkets, tea cloths, and decorative items for that little extra country touch in your home.

Kaney opened the doors to The Mercantile featuring Cattaneo Bros. in November 2013, and with help from Aly Pulford to run the store, it is always a welcoming place. Pulford is happy to steer you toward whatever you’re looking for, as well as sharing what’s new in the shop. With all the friendly warmth, the only thing The Mercantile was missing was a furry family pet roaming around.

Like the Factory, which has been at 769 Caudill St. for more than 30 years, there’s an almost infinite number of ways to get your favorite jerky—small packages, in bulk, a bundled variety, you name it. Heck, for a flat shipping rate of $5, you can even have it sent to a loved one who’s gone away to a college in a state across the country. In, let’s say, Missouri. ’Cause lets face it, they will be in Mis-ery if they’re missing out on their favorite protein-filled snack. So go ahead, send them that care package filled with protein, iron, and Vitamins A and C for all those late-night cram sessions.

While you’re at it, take a break from all that shopping and fro-yo consumption, and recharge with a pack for yourself.

The Mercantile is located at 950 Chorro St. and are open Sunday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To place any orders just them a call at 543-7188, or visit the website cattaneobros.com/factory.php. You can even head to their Facebook page and give them a like at facebook.com/Cattaneobros.
