Have you ever thought, “A rectangular canvas is just too limiting for my art”? Never fear, a new three-dimensional muse is on the way.

A stampeding herd of cows is en route to San Luis Obispo. The CowParade is one of the largest public art exhibits in the world. More than 75 cities and 200 million people have participated in the event, and now the CowParade is coming to SLO this September.

Local artists will decorate three-dimensional fiberglass cows that will then be auctioned off. Net proceeds will benefit local charities such as the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo, Arts Obispo, and the Heritage Foundation. The cows will be on display for eight months.

Think you’ve got what it takes to paint the most rad cow in town? Applications for cow artists are being accepted until March. Artists who are chosen can opt to be paid $1,000 for their work or $500 plus 10 percent of the net proceeds from the auction lot. Visit cowparadeslo.com for more information.
