If you can’t be a poet, memorizing some of the greatest poets’ eternal words might just be the next best thing.
The San Luis Obispo County Poetry Out Loud Competition is presented by ARTS Obispo and will celebrate its 10th year on Feb. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in San Luis Obispo. Students from 11 different local high schools will recite two great works of poetry each from memory. Facing a panel of five judges, the students are evaluated on accuracy, confidence, delivery, and articulation.
The winner will go on to represent the county in the the statewide competition to be held in Sacramento on Feb. 28 and and perhaps even to the national finals in Washington, D.C., where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be up for grabs. Come out and check out the next Maya Aneglou or Langston Hughes.Visit artsobispo.org for more infotmation.
