Calling all writers: Pulitzer-prize winning author Jane Smiley will lead a riveting talk in conjunction with the SLO Library Foundation’s new Book and Author Series this week. Smiley will tackle all the aspects of writer education as well as put a new spin on the old adage: “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” The year-old series aims to raise funds for the SLO Library Foundation, which keeps the library doors open for all to enjoy.
Smiley is best known for her classic novel A Thousand Acres, which won her a Pulitzer Prize award. Last year, the first book of her The Last Hundred Years trilogy garnered enormous praise for the author. In total, Smiley has penned a whopping dozen novels, as well as essays for magazines like Vogue, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Harper’s.
Tickets to the talk are on sale now at the Performing Arts Center ticket office or online at pacslo.org. Student tickets are $10, and adult tickets are $25. VIP tickets are available for $35 and include the talk plus a reception with Smiley. The author will speak at the Spanos Theatre on Wednesday, May 27, at 7 pm.
