Branching out

On Dec. 21, it was announced that San Luis Obispo’s Vintners executive director, Becky Gray was going to resign, effective Jan. 30, 2012, to start her dream nonprofit organization in North County.

Her resignation from the position leaves a gap the vintners are actively seeking to fill. Since their foundation in 1989, the group has seen a vast growth in membership and currently has a base of 67 people, which is a 300 percent membership increase in the last six years.

The SLO Vintners have worked hard in the last few years to build on community alliances, bolstering tourism and supporting member relations. They have big plans for the coming years and have immediate plans regarding public relations that they’ll be revealing in 2012.

SLO Vintners is a consumer-conscious group that’s host to two annual events that often sell out. The organization believes 2012 will be the year to continue to promote and organize further positive exposure of the SLO Wine Territory and the abundance of growers within this area.

Gray feels the organization is in a good place.

“I am excited at the place where the association sits right now,” she said. “I have been able to work with passionate people while promoting impeccable wines in a region I am so fond of. All of it was a dream come true. I will miss this organization, but look forward to continuing my passion of working with people and the MUST organization.”

MUST is a community organization that raises funds for a variety of local projects.

The vintners have a six-member board. All potential candidates should go to slowine.com and head to the “jobs in wine country” section. Submit a cover letter and résumé electronically by the Jan. 15 deadline to searchcommittee@slowine.com.

Mike Sinor, president of the board, said everyone is excited to find the newest leader.

“Everyone is looking forward to finding the next executive director who can continue Becky’s hard work and propel the association to even higher levels of recognition,” he said.”
