Bring back control

Barbara Harris bemoans classrooms with 30 to 35 kids in her commentary (“Save our schools,” May 8).

“When I was a girl,” as the hackneyed saying goes, our classrooms all had that many kids, and I have the school pictures to prove it. Granted, this was in the Boston area, and granted, it was a good many years ago, but that’s really beside the point. We were taught to respect our teachers. There was no talking back, and we never dreamed of skipping school.

So what’s wrong with a classroom of 35 kids? If a teacher has proper control, absolutely nothing. And believe me, our teachers had proper control.
