We have been at war in the Middle East for 10 years, longer than World War II, at a cost of billions of dollars and many lives from the United States and other countries.
Regardless of the military point of view, we have not weakened terrorism materially. The Middle East governments and many of their people that we are defending are not fully supportive of the U.S. military and do not like the United States.
Simply put, we cannot ever win this war. We cannot defeat terrorism there. We can never change their culture or raise their standard of living to ours, and we should not expect to do so.
I hope the recent killing of 30 Americans will create a huge outcry from our people for our military to leave and come home. Other countries have already left, and we should not be the last country to stay without full support of NATO.
We should bring our military troops and civilians home, save lives, and use far less additional money by protecting our country here in the United States. I hope and urge everyone to write and contact federal officials to support bringing our troops home. This is not a political issue; it is a common sense issue of being realistic now.
Footnote: An increasing number of people who were supportive of our military action believe we should remove all combat forces now.
