Two brothers suspected of swindling homeowners in SLO County and throughout the state are facing criminal and civil charges.

Sean McConville, co-owner of Property Tax Reassessment and Property Tax Adjustment Services, faces 20 felony counts in Ventura County and is out on bail after more criminal claims were filed in Los Angeles County. Attorney General Jerry Brown also filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against McConville and his brother Michael. The brothers are accused of fraudulently taking money from property owners for home-value reassessments, which is a free service elsewhere.

About 60 people in SLO County sent money to the Southern California companies, Assistant Assessor Kirk Kidwell said.
