Cal Poly student assaulted near campus

On Friday, Oct. 6, 18-year-old Cal Poly student Ryan David Alcaraz was found lying on the sidewalk, unconscious, near the intersection of Monte Vista and California. An ambulance took him to Sierra Vista Hospital, where he was brought to the emergency room at 10 p.m. The hospital notified the police at 12:15 a.m., but because Alcaraz was unconscious, they were unable to obtain a statement regarding what happened or a description of his assailants.

Police believe that Alcaraz was lying on the sidewalk for a few minutes before he was found. Several people were seen running from the location, but so far nobody has been able to provide a description of the assailants. Hospital personnel concluded that Alcaraz was struck in the head, and police reported that property was taken from him during the assault. As of the afternoon of Oct. 9, Alcaraz was still in the hospital and police had not yet been able to communicate with him.

Police are requesting anyone with information to call 781-7312 or Crime Stoppers at 549-7867.
