A fresh start for fall: Edna Valley’s Tolosa Winery has spent the past year in the midst of transformation while simultaneously working to craft the best pinot noir and chardonnay possible (Whew! That’s a lot of work!). A ribbon cutting and reception of Tolosa’s newly refreshed tasting room will kick off this Nov. 4, with plenty of winemakers dinners and tastings slated for all of Harvest Wine Weekend (tolosawinery.com) … The SLO Natural Foods Cooperative is also working on bettering itself, which means more fresh, local goods in the works! The cooperative recently announced that it has been accepted as a member of the National Cooperative Grocers organization, and the owner-members are doubling their efforts bring more diversity to its shelves in 2017, (the cooperative will screen the film In the Spirit of Cooperation at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Guild Hall in SLO). Go check out the flick and meet the fine folks who keep our local cooperative running strong.

Fill ’er up!

Happy as a clam! The 70th Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival will splash into full effect this Oct. 21 through 23! With live music, beer, wine, vendors, a wine walk, chowder contest, and clam bake, you’re sure to get your fill of beachy flavors just as fall settles in on the Central Coast (pismoclamfestival.com) … SLO Beer Week continues with a keg of fun this Oct. 20, including a Libertine bottle pour and art show at The Sation SLO, Pitchers and Pies event at Gino’s Pizza, and a sour beer event featuring The Bruery at Luis Wine Bar … Also on Oct. 20: Get in on the Heidbanger Red Carpet Release Party featuring a first-sip of BarrelHouse’s red rye scotch ale aged in rye whiskey barrels taking place at BarrelHouse Speakeasy in downtown SLO … Oh! And don’t forget the official SLO Beer Week Afterparty at Tap It Brewing Co. (Oct. 22) and Oktoberfest event at Central Coast Brewing Co. (Oct. 23). Of course, you won’t want to miss the week’s main Best of the Fest tasting event at Madonna Inn Oct. 22 featuring all of the local and Golden State craft beers you love to chug (slobeerweek.com).

Eat, Drink, and be Scary!

Bobbing for apples takes on a whole new meaning: Slurp down a cold hard cider at Bristol’s Ciderhouse in Atascadero this Oct. 29 from 7 to 11 p.m. Enjoy a feast of oven roasted pork loin, cider and hubbard squash soup, roasted cauliflower and fennel gratin, and pumpkin crème brulee! Prizes will be awarded for the best costume, you can get your hands on some delicious witch’s brew cider, and there will certainly be some tricks and treats to delight and fright (yes—there really will be bobbing for apples, too) … Tap It Brewing Co. in SLO will also host some freaky shenanigans for Halloween. On Oct. 28, zombie-walk your way to the brewery for a costume contest, wood-fired pizza, food truck fare, and music all night provided by SLO Record Swap (tapitbrewing.com).
