I would like to thank Kathy Johnston and New Times for her wonderful article about school gardens (“Real-world learning,” Aug. 13). Although by chance I happened to represent the Pacheco garden for the article, I’d like your readers to know that I am only one member of a hard-working team that has worked year-round for the past two years to create and maintain our garden and our composting and recycling program. Without the amazing dedication of these women and men our garden would not exist. The following people richly deserve recognition for all their work and commitment: Dawn Addis, Katia Chang, Abby Diodati, Shoshannah Galambos, Judy Mahan, Jean Wright, as well as their husbands whose support has also been essential. Kathy Chechopolous and Mercedes Pascual have also helped keep the garden alive over the summer. There have been other volunteers too numerous to name, for whose efforts we are also very grateful.
