Nosh is open for business in the old Artisan location, 1401 Park St. in downtown Paso Robles! Esther Abobo, former chef at Vegas' Paris and Monte Carlo casinos, wants to bring traditional breakfasts, gourmet burgers, and local wines to the unique locale. Plus, most entrees range around $10! ... We locals know that Santa Maria-style barbecue is the best stuff on earth. Looks like USA Today, Westways Magazine, and 805 Living are also in agreement: They've all published recent articles on the regional delicacy. My fave picks: The Hitching Post, Jocko's, and the Santa Maria Elks Lodge (go for cook your own steak each Friday. It's epic.) ... Everyone and their mom has been raving about Fruitland La Casa del Sabor in Arroyo Grande, and for good reason! This unassuming joint cooks up authentic Mexican dishes with zero pretention and a whole lot of flavor (803 Grand Ave., Arroyo Grande).

Upcoming adventures

On Sept. 24 and 25, meet majestic Clydesdale horses, spend a day splashing around Morro Bay, blend and label coastal wines, uncover Hearst Castle's enchanted history, or choose from a bevy of other cool local romps not just for tourists (savorcentralcoast.com) ... The Home, Garden & Gourmet Expo is coming to Paso Robles this Aug. 29 and 30, so mark your calendars now! If you're planning a remodel of your nest and want to check out awesome food and wine vendors while you research, this is your event (inspiredexpos.com/expos/paso-robles).

Oh, yum!

A new white to try: Soaring Hawk Vineyards' dry, barrel-aged viognier. You've probably tasted this aromatic Rhône white varietal aged in stainless steel, but have you tried it with a tinge of toasty French Oak? (4255 Vista del Lago, Santa Margarita) ... Brigit Binns, author of the New Wine Country Cookbook, has been hard at work hosting fabulous cooking classes in her gorgeous Refugio Kitchen. On Aug. 13, join Binns and best-selling cookbook author Jackie Keller for a class on Summer Suppers with Power Coupling: Protein & Whole Grains for Heart Health.
