After the Aug. 24 New Times hit the streets, County Assessor Tom Bordonaro noted that a Central Coast Taxpayers Association brochure, mentioned as having no contact information in "Assessor attempts to clear controversy," came with an attached reply card. That card bears the address: Central Coast Taxpayers Association, PMB 317, 7343 El Camino Real, Atascadero, CA, 93422-9919.
The assessor also noted that the brochure doesn't mention a sales tax initiative, as implied by the article. Bordonaro is quoted in the brochure as saying, "The best way to hold the line against new taxes is to have a vibrant economy. Welcoming new stores and restaurants into the community like Best Buy, Applebees and Wal-Mart will strengthen the local economy."
Bordonaro has reportedly said that the association supports a commercial annex over a proposed tax increase which is no longer on the ballot for Atascadero though he stated that he's used no public resources to discourage or support any ballot measures.
