In the great revolving door of life, Poly has returned from its Spring Escape whilst Cuesta has entered it with the same rotation. And yet, that too shall not last, unless Jenkins gets his scarf caught in the frame again. Seriously, Jenkins, keep your articles of fashion fastened, and don’t even think about saying that five times five times fast.

So ... what to do when both have returned? Obviously the answer is: Go to the opera.

Yes, clearly opera is the answer. Luckily, the Student Opera Theatre of Cal Poly shall be presenting The Magic Flute in collaboration with Opera San Luis Obispo. This popular fantasy work by none other than Mozart is accompanied by a 38-piece orchestra and 35-voice choir and allows all of Cal Poly’s music majors with a focus on voice to have their own time on stage. If wicked queens and magic animals are your cup of tea—or heck, if music is—then you should really check out this heralded classic.

Performance dates are Thursday through Saturday April 11 through 13, each starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Spanos Theatre. General admission is $18, with $16 tickets for seniors and $9 for students.

Good news, everyone! New and continuing Cuesta college students can still apply for financial aid for the 2013-2014 academic year! There are six events remaining, in both English and Spanish, that will help students do so. There will be two events per day April 16 through 18: at the San Luis Obispo campus in Room 3132 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the first day, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the latter two days; one at the North County Campus Room N3026 from 5 to 7 p.m. the first two days; and finally one at the Arroyo Grande Center at Arroyo Grande High School in the 900 Wing, Room 907, the final day from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The events will offer free assistance to new and continuing students in the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act forms online. Walk-ins will be served as space dictates, but it’s recommended that students call 546-3143 to schedule an appointment during said event times.

Also, here’s a quick, last-minute reminder for Cuesta writers picking this issue up on publication day: The deadline for submitting entries to Tellus, Cuesta’s own creative writing publication/contest, is April 5.
