The Obama administration is now urging fast passage of a new “health care reform” that was drafted at a recent summit by big pharma, HMOs, and Wall Street. Not one patient advocate group was at this summit. In fact, more than a dozen patient advocates—mostly nurses—for single-payer heath care were arrested at a meeting run by Sen. Max Baucus, in which single payer was off the shelf and for-profit HMOs and pharma would run the new reform.
At one of my most recent visits to Congresswoman Capps’ office, I was told that Capps “didn’t think it was the right time for single-payer health care, that it wouldn’t pass right now.” This is the same line (lie) being spouted by those in Congress who are owned by big business and Wall Street, like Senator Baucus.
I urge citizens to put the pressure on our representatives to co-sponsor HR676, a bill for single-payer health care. Representative Capps, a former public nurse, needs to know how the majority of citizens demand single payer now.
