“We’re just very grateful to have our little boy,” Jose Villanueva said in front of a packed Board of Supervisors Chambers on June 8.
SLO County supervisors recognized Sheriff Deputy Jason Nadal and Dispatchers Julie Ricks and Nikki Lipanovich for saving the life of “Little Jose,” a 2-year-old who nearly drowned on May 4.
“Thank you,” Little Jose said from the audience.
Nadal responded to a 9-1-1 call made by Little Jose’s parents when they found him floating in the pool at his home in Nipomo. He was “lifeless” and no had pulse. Nadal was able to make it to the house within minutes and, after administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he managed to revive Little Jose, who made a full recovery.
“It was a group effort,” Sheriff Pat Hedges said, commending Nadal and the dispatch team.
“If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have been called and perhaps Jose wouldn’t be here,” Nadal commended the dispatchers.
