The candidates in the race for San Luis Obispo County district attorney have begun listing endorsements.
Current District Attorney Gerald Shea threw his weight behind Assistant District Attorney Tim Covello, one of two candidates in the race, in a Jan. 13 announcement. Covello has also received endorsements from a police chief, current and retired members of the San Luis Obispo Police and County Sheriff’s department, and various community leaders.
On Jan. 14, Deputy District Attorney Dan Dow announced that the Arroyo Grande Police Officer’s Association (POA) has joined the Atascadero and Paso Robles POAs in endorsing him. Many officers from the rank-and-file of those and other departments have also endorsed Dow. The Deputy District Attorney’s Association, which represents the county prosecutors, has also endorsed him.
The seat for the county’s top prosecutor will open after Shea—who has held it for more than 15 years—announced in November that he won’t seek reelection at the end of his term. That same day, Dow announced plans to run, and launched his campaign’s website. Covello announced in December.
