The Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention (SARP) center is leading "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes," an awareness and fundraiser for the prevention of sexual violence, on April 28. For this event, men are invited to don high-heeled shoes for a mile-long trek around downtown SLO. The cost for individuals to participate is $20, or $100 for a team. Women are encouraged to march in support of an end to sexual violence. Registration is set for 11 a.m. at Mitchell Park. The march begins at noon. Cal Poly's Student Community Services Center is organizing the ninth annual Walk to Fight Homelessness fundraiser on May 12. The walk begins at 11 a.m. at Santa Rosa Park in SLO and ends in the same place with a barbecue and family activities. The event hopes to raise awareness of the more than 100 people who walk between the Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter, which is consistently filled to capacity, and the Prado Day Center, which offers personal services such as laundry, shower, and job-seeking help.
