The San Luis Bay Surfrider Foundation is holding a comprehensive wellness workshop on Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Infinite Dynamic Studio, 811 El Capitan Way in SLO. The event focuses on surfers' health issues, but is open to everyone and provided at no cost to participants. Scheduled workshops include "Energy for the Long Haul" focusing on diet choices and blood sugar, "Body Wise H2O" to synchronize body and mind in movement, and individual tongue diagnosis to evaluate overall health. Recipes and snacks will be provided by Shine Cafe, and information on current water quality issues will also be available. Winter is coming, and for many people in our community, this means cold days and nights without adequate coats to brave the season. San Luis Trust Bank hopes to remedy that situation by collecting new and used coats of all sizes through Dec. 20. Coats that are warm and in good condition can be dropped off at the 1001 Marsh St. branch in SLO. For more info, call: 541-9200.

For the 16th year, CDF and the SLO County Firefighters Benevolence Association has been bringing Christmas to thousands of kids all over the county with Operation Santa Claus. The program collects new, unwrapped gifts for kids and teens and distributes them before Christmas. Gifts can be dropped off at fire stations around the county. The Waggin' Tail Barkery is collecting donations to equip SLO fire departments with animal resuscitation devices. The units cost about $60 dollars each and could save the life of a beloved pet in an emergency situation. After the city's needs have been met, Waggin' Tail hopes to equip the entire county. Donations can be made to the pet boutique at 722 Marsh St. in SLO or by calling 787-0190.
