I am one more of the voices in opposition to vehicle use on the beaches; voices that are multiplying. As an East Coaster, I recently visited your dunes for the first time and was amazed by their natural beauty. One could get lost in the peacefulness of the place, overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, were it not for the “highway” dropped right at the shore.
In changing times, encouragement of vehicle use is not what is needed, especially upon one of Mother Nature’s wonders. Oil is running out, it’s polluting our environment, it’s aiding some foreign countries we consider enemies that supply it to us, and it’s helping cause unjust wars. It’s destroying our culture and our world.
Next time, instead of driving on the beach and looking out the window as though it were a television screen, try taking a walk or a bike ride with family or friends and dip your feet in the water, collect shells, and feel the sand between your toes. Experience nature as she was meant to be experienced—naturally.
