- HAKA BY LABYRINTH 2011 TEMPRANILLO PASO ROBLES:
Looking for the perfect wine to pair with carne asada or spicy chicken tacos? Try this Tempranillo, an excellent Spanish variety by winemaker Rick Hill. He’s been making this fragrant red ever since he founded his brand, Labyrinth. The Haka line represents his value-priced wines. This Paso Robles grown Tempranillo is deeply layered and complex. I appreciated its ripe yet balanced aromas of red and black fruit. It exhibits notes of tangy cherry nicely offset by notes of dark plums, blackberries, earth, and spice. I loved it on its own but it’s best at the dinner table: An excellent choice for Mexican cuisine, dry-rubbed spareribs, or grilled steaks. Buy it at California Fresh or labyrinthwine.com, it’s a good value at $34 retail.
