One more candidate is now on the short list of local political stalwarts eying the County Board of Supervisors’ 3rd District seat.

Shelly Higginbotham, mayor of Pismo Beach, announced on May 18 that she will run to unseat current Supervisor Adam Hill in the 2016 election. Higginbotham will join San Luis Obispo City Councilmember Dan Carpenter and former Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson.

“The 3rd District deserves a county supervisor with a fresh, service-oriented spirit, which respects all constituents; provides rational, open decision making; and eliminates old-fashioned personal politics,” Higginbotham said in an emailed press release.

Higginbotham was reelected as mayor in 2014 after edging out challenger Kevin Kreowski by two votes (1,637 to 1,635). Peterson lost her 2014 reelection bid to now-Grover Beach Mayor John Shoals. Dan Carpenter’s term on the SLO City Council ends in 2016.
