NEW TIMES: How did you get your start in automotive repair?
KIMBALL: My father owns the Kimball Motor Company, so I’ve been around cars and the car business my whole life. When I was working in the car business I noticed repair men would come out to the car dealerships and customers’ houses to repair minor dings and scratches. It was around 1991 when I decided to transition from selling cars to repairing them cosmetically throughout San Luis Obispo County.
NEW TIMES: What do you do?
KIMBALL: We provide basic touch ups for chips and scratches. We can polish surface flaws away before it’s necessary to paint an area. If you need bumper work to be done we’ll typically sand out the damaged area then smooth it out and paint the color back in. We spot in where it’s damaged rather than paint the whole bumper. We’ve also been offering headlight restoration.
NEW TIMES: Do you have a repair shop for automobiles with extensive damage?
KIMBALL: No, we’re strictly a mobile operation. Most of our customers, about 60 to 70 percent, are car dealership owners who need some touch ups on used cars, but of course we offer all of our services throughout all of the Central Coast. ∆
