Jingle bells

comment

The real meaning: Help the Hidden Power Cycle Clinic, First Five, and Hispanic Business Association feed 50 to 100 families this holiday. How? Donate your turkeys, hams, boxed taters, canned beans, stuffing, and holiday pies and feel the joy well in your heart. Want to make a difference without the hassle? Donate meal vouchers from Albertsons and Vons (bring donations to 1333 Riverside Ave. in Paso Robles by Dec. 19) … Shop local and coastal at the Dec. 23 Merchant Christmas Street Fair kicking off in Morro Bay. Amid sand and surf, you will find handmade goodies, arts and crafts, music, dancing, kiddie entertainment, Santa, and regional food galore (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Morro Bay Boulevard.). Now that’s the kind of commercialism I can truly get behind.

Spotlight on Lompoc Wine

Discovered: By now, we all know that Lompoc’s own Brewer-Clifton winery earned the highest U.S. ranking on Wine Spectator’s 2014 Top Wines list recently. The winery’s 2012 Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills earned its glittering status at No. 8 in the world (wow—right?) thanks to expert winemaking; cool, ocean-influenced microclimate; and, according to winemaker Greg Brewer, some intangible magic. “Whether in music, art, fashion, whatever—it’s not one single color, it’s not one single note, but the unity and the collection of everything,” he has said of the hoopla. You are a class act, Mr. Brewer! This is why you truly deserve an entire paragraph this week (for more information on this hot local winery, visit brewerclifton.com or call 735-9184).

Chill out!

Need a darn break already? Reset and recharge with Blue Dolphin Inn’s Coastal Romance Package and treat your significant other to some quality chillaxin’ time. The package includes a four-hour-long Paso Robles wine tour, sweet surprises (artisanal chocolate covered strawberries, anyone?), and sweeping Cambia sunsets to spare (available Feb. 1 through March 26; call 800-222-9157 to inquire about the deal while it lasts) … Dec. 19 marks the opening of the Winter Wonder SLO Ice Skating Rink at the Alex Madonna Expo Center! Get your winter fun on while helping out Big Brothers Big Sisters of SLO County. Why is this included in the flavor section? Well, I believe that we all need an excuse to tuck into a delicious slice of pink champagne cake over the holidays (skating from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily). See you at the Copper Café, fellow cakesters.
