The controversy over health care reform is the oddest debate outside of arguments about abortion I’ve seen. The last thing a person going into a hospital or an emergency room should have to worry about is how they‘re going to pay, no matter who they are or what their income level is. But the moment there’s even a suggestion that the government get involved, people start screaming about socialist medicine or fascism. It may show the level of distrust about government but then again, such words distract attention from the real questions issues. Such scare tactics repeated over and over again fail to substantially influence anything, certainly not the decision-making process that leads to real reform.
Maybe I’m being too idealistic but I still think we can persuade politicians to do the right thing through reasonable dialog.
