Leave book decisions to librarians

comment

Dear Ms. Denny (“Oldies but still goodies, Oct. 14-21): You want to see old books, check out the local history section at the San Luis Obispo City County Library. Measure L will have no effect on the material located in this section. Librarians are trained qualified professionals that understand the quality and measurement of material located within the walls of their building, be they local-history related, fictional satire, or nonfiction travel. It is an interesting fact, though, that weeding a collection actually boasts circulation statistics, and also gives the library a more inviting feeling.

Sometimes it is important to weed a collection because scientific experiments have proven new theories and overturned others. The money raised by passing Measure L will assist in the endurance of the library as a noble and worthwhile facility, and maybe even be a little hip. Vote yes on L.
