Let doctors design a health-care system

After reading the opinion commentary by Maeva Considine (“Damn you to health, July 19), I thought I would like to add a few more thoughts. Most of you will remember Nancy Pelosi’s famous statement, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Our Obama health care was forced upon us without knowing what was in it. There was no chance to tweak it or have doctors or hospital administrators give their opinion on the matter. On something as important as this, why all the secrecy? Why the rush to get it done? My Medicare payments will be $104.20 in 2012, $120.20 in 2013, and $247.00 in 2014 with no raise in Social Security. Why did they wait until after the election to raise it so high?

Do you really trust a politician to look out for you? I don’t trust any politician, Republican or Democrat, any more. Let’s start all over and have a health-care scheme that is designed by doctors for us, not by politicians for votes or money from lobbyists like Big Pharma and AARP.

The system is broken, of course, but is this the right fix? Stop and look around and see how many of your rights have been lost in the last four years. Let’s not lose more.
