I've lived here for almost half a century. In these years I've seen our little towns become cities. As they mature, most of them take on the responsibilities of adulthood that growth requires. Cambria, Cayucos, and Morro Bay have all realized that for a community to survive, they need to establish an infrastructure to cover their needs.
As with any family, there is a kid who doesn't seem to get it. As large as any two of these towns, Los Osos continues to depend on the rest of us to pick up after them. They depend on the county for trash, law enforcement, street repair, and alas, water and sewer.
When your dog is mature enough, you train it to be housebroken. When your child is ready, you toilet-train them. Los Osos is still crapping in our bay and whining about having to pick it up.
The rest of us have, at our own expense, taken care of our own mess. It's time to grow up. Build your sewer. Quit despoiling our bay.
I have had to work all my life. I am neither rich nor privileged. I do understand that it will be expensive. But it is just as obvious that the longer the delay, and the more contention and resistance that is generated, the more the project will cost. It's not a matter of if, it's only a matter of when and how much. It's up to you.
