I have watched in dismay as both my company and my city have struggled to overcome serious adverse economic conditions over the past few years. My company has worked very hard to find a way to become profitable in California.

Mayor Peters and the Morro Bay City Council members seem determined to bankrupt city coffers and send the city back into the county domain. I just wish they would leave my job alone while they pursue this suicidal course of action.

My company is perched on the edge of a wonderful new contract that will bring money to the city and allow current employees to keep their jobs. We might even be able to expand our staff, once numbering over 100 hardworking folks but now down to only 30.

My fellow employees and I are watching the unfolding drama of Mayor Peters and her fellow council members as they continue to try to force us out of business and into abandoning Morro Bay forever.

This would be a good time for a meaningful partnership to help both my company and my city; however, I see from this week’s protest to the California Energy Commission to block our contract, the city is not interested in helping either itself or us. I hope my fellow citizens are paying attention to the city’s continuing determination to force Duke Energy to give up, close down, and go away.
