The sheep are back! Adelaida Cellars is celebrating the annual return of the sheep back to its Bobcat Crossing vineyard! The herd of sheep, alpacas, and their guardian llama, Lliam, are now on the job improving sustainability in the vineyard by clearing weeds and creating a healthy permaculture. They love visitors to their workplace, which is located near the entrance to the Adelaida tasting room on the left. I highly recommend stopping by and saying hello to these helpful, adorable creatures if you can (5805 Adelaida Road, Paso Robles; adelaida.com; no reservations required) ... The Cayucos Pier will reopen on Oct. 31 after about two years closed due to renovations. Check out the celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony, which will include music by Makana, Green to White, as well as plenty of beer from Tap It Brewing Co. and wine from Tobin James (1 to 5 p.m. on Ocean Front Street; free admission).

Wine Time!

Wineries began harvesting early this year and are reporting low yields with high quality. Let's pat these hardworking folks on the back and have a little fun doing it at the 25th annual Harvest on the Coast kicking off this Nov. 6 through 8 across the region. With a grand tasting and wine auction, SLO Wine Country Open House, and a grand winemaker dinner, there's something for every kind of wine person (go to slowine.com for more information and a lineup of events. Designated drivers get a discount, of course) ... Congrats to Paso Robles winery Midnight Cellars, which recently received stellar scores from Wine Enthusiast and Vinous. With seven scores in the 90s, it's safe to say these bold Bordeaux and Italian wines are on the rise (for more information, go to midnightcellars.com or call the tasting room at 239-8904).

Fresh!

Did you know that Villa Creek Cellars has a new tasting room located behind their killer Villa Creek restaurant at 1144 Pine St. in Paso Robles? Plus, the eatery is now open for lunch, serving its full, local and seasonal menu through dinner each Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (winery visits are also available daily by appointment; call 238-7145 for more details) ... You may have missed the annual Tinkertin Trailer Prom at BarrelHouse Brewing Co., but you can still get in on the brewery's popular beers, coming soon to downtown SLO. Stop by the Paso Robles hangout, sprawl out on the grass, and dig into smoked fish goodness courtesy of Ruddell's Smokehouse in Cayucos this Oct. 31. Wear a costume if you feel so inclined!
