Why does the U.S. support Israel? Would Texans stop shooting rockets if they were being occupied and colonized? We complain about Hamas getting rockets through Egypt, while our weapons are being used to commit such war crimes as bombing Palestinian schools, hospitals, and U.N. facilities.
With what moral authority do we punish Arab nations for pursuing nuclear power, while we support the only country with an undeclared nuclear arsenal? Why is Israel allowed to violate international law and stand in defiance of U.N. Resolutions 242 and 348, and why do our airways carry such propaganda for Israel as the Osgood File?
Before 1948, Arabs comprised 75 percent and Jews comprised 25 percent of the population of Palestine, which was occupied by Great Britain. They coexisted peacefully enough and often intermarried. After 1948, 3 million Palestinians were displaced to make room for tens of thousands of Jews from Europe, Russian, and the U.S. who had never set foot in the Middle East.
If our country is to make the changes President Obama has talked about, we will have to radically alter our policies in the Middle East. The war crimes of the Gaza invasion are simply not the work of God’s chosen people, and the U.S. should no longer give billions of dollars in weapons to Israel while we still have our own crimes against humanity such as Manifest Destiny and New Orleans to atone for.
