JENNINGS Every Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m., 895 Aerovista Place in San Luis Obispo.
NEW TIMES How would you describe the atmosphere of a Toastmasters meeting? How many people are usually there?
JENNINGS Like a family. It is a concentrated effort to enjoy public speaking, and ranges from as little as 10 to as many as 30, depending on guests.
NEW TIMES If people want to give Toastmasters a try, what can they do?
JENNINGS Show up, it’s that simple. It is open to the public.
NEW TIMES What have you gained from Toastmasters that has improved your speaking ability?
JENNINGS Knowledge of my weaknesses, and gentle evaluation for improvement.
NEW TIMES What’s one of the more challenging speech topics you’ve been assigned at Toastmasters?
JENNINGS A motivational speech, trying to motivate people.
NEW TIMES What would the world look like if everyone were a member of Toastmasters?
JENNINGS Congress, the White House, and government, along with people of all nations and regions, would speak more succinctly and accurately, without any “um’s,” “ah’s,” and other audible pauses.
NEW TIMES What has kept you a member of Toastmasters?
JENNINGS A sense of personal fulfillment as well as belonging to a great group of people.
