CARR The Chamber of Commerce wanted to find a way to celebrate the local avocado growers, since we have a huge amount of growers in this area. They created the Avocado and Margarita Festival as a way to thank all the local farmers and growers. The Chamber figured we should throw in the margaritas in order to make it a party where everyone can bring some friends and family and celebrate the festivities we offer. The festival is sponsored by the California Avocado Commission, which helps people understand how healthy and versatile the avocado is, and provides the knowledge on how important the avocado is to the livelihood of California’s agriculture.
NEW TIMES What kind of events will be taking place at the festival?
CARR One of the most popular events is we have a group of cheerleaders who offer and sell their own guacamole. The girls have their own secret recipe and, in my opinion, it’s the best guacamole there is. In addition, we will be having awards and contests taking place featuring the best guacamole recipe, best use of avocados in a dish, and best margarita recipe. Through the festival, we’ll be having bands and musicians such as Guy Budd, Gypsy Souls, Lenny Blue and the Otter Guys, and DeLaBahia performing with salsa dancers.
NEW TIMES How do you enjoy your margaritas and avocado?
CARR Well, the whole festival is a wonderful experience for me to enjoy. I love seeing all the people enjoying the great food and drinks available. However, I love the spicy guacamole that the cheerleaders make, and I love a tasty blended margarita, with a little bit of salt.
