The Café Americano—a straightforward mix of espresso and hot water—isn’t my first coffee shop choice. Why? I love a little frothy milk tickling my nose, of course! Then there are days when I just feel … icky. Too much pizza! Too much cheese! Just too much fun, period. It’s time for a clean, hot cup of pep that gets straight to the point. Scout’s can’t be beat for impeccable service and a strong, bright, and simple cup.

There is a two-story Western-themed suite at the Madonna Inn called the “Pick and Shovel,” and I hope to visit it before I die. The room is located just above the inn’s horse pastures and features a rustic fireplace, 33-foot-long wall-to-wall leather couch designed by the late Alex Madonna himself, and a row of tractor-seat bar stools. Alas, I will have to make do with the ole Pick & Shovel cocktail, available at the Copper Café as well as the at the Silver Lounge Bar. A moonshine-spiked mix of ginger, apple, and marshmallow flavors, it is scrumptious and comes in at less than $500 a pop! Darn tootin’.
