Sex should be private

I’m sick of hearing pro-gay and anti-gay people shrilly assault each other’s intelligence and decency. For the record, I do not support gay marriage and will vote yes in the upcoming election to overturn it. The majority of voting Californians supported Prop 22 and our courts should recognize that.

Having said that, I’m also angry at the shrillest anti-gays, like Otis “the Torturer” Page and the wayward minister who compared gay people to “terrorists.” Loudmouths like Laura Schlessinger and John Rocker do not speak for me, either. Lack of decorum and respect on both sides sometimes becomes nauseating.

When meeting people on the streets, sexual orientation is no concern. If a man happens to be gay, but doesn’t proposition me, fine! Gay Pride Week is silly and I never attend it. But neither do I abuse gays and lesbians. I only resent blunt revelations of sexual orientation. Sex should be private.

To Otis “the Torturer” and that wayward minister, I reiterate that hatred is not conducive to reform. The anti-gay movement discredits itself by making Dr. Laura and John Rocker friends of traditional families. That is worse than ridiculous; it’s futile, even sacrilegious.

To both sides: Cool it.
